    Madison County Circuit Court

    A court of general jurisdiction, the Circuit Court presides over criminal and civil cases, for both jury or non-jury trials. The Circuit Court handles capital offenses, felonies, contested probate cases, land dispute title cases, as well as civil matters involving more than $5,000. In addition, the Circuit Court has the ability to issue writs of mandamus, writs of prohibition, and injunctions.

    Madison County Family Court

    The Madison County Family Court is a division of the Circuit Court and is devoted to exclusively handling cases that involve children and families. Due to this, Family Court cases do not compete with civil and criminal cases for court time. In Family Court, one judge is provided to hear and handle issues relating to adoption, paternity, domestic violence, divorce, termination of parental rights, child custody, status offenses, distribution, spousal support, as well as child abuse and neglect.
