Woodford County Circuit Court
A court of general jurisdiction, the Circuit Court governs over both civil and criminal cases, for jury or non-jury trials. The Circuit Court manages contested probate cases, felonies, capital offenses, land dispute title cases, as well as handles civil matters that involve more than $5,000. Circuit Court has the ability to hear appeals from administrative agencies and District Court. In addition, the Circuit Court has the jurisdiction to issue writs of prohibition, writs of mandamus, as well as injunctions.

A division of the Circuit Court, the Madison County Family Court is committed to solely handling cases that involve both children and families, as Family Court cases do not compete with civil and criminal cases for court time. For Family Court, one judge is issued to handle issues pertaining to status offenses, paternity, divorce, domestic violence, termination of parental rights, adoption, distribution, child custody, spousal support, child abuse, and neglect.
